Are Bumble and bumble Hair Care Products Vegan?

In short, not vegan.

We received an email earlier asking us if the Bumble and bumble Hair Products were vegan. My hair is less than a quarter of an inch long … so I went straight to the source. I emailed Bumble and bumble, and here is the full response.

Dear [Is It Vegan]?

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and for your interest in Bumble and bumble.

As you may not be aware, Bumble and bumble is part of The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. is committed to the elimination of animal testing. We are equally committed to consumer health and safety, and bringing to market products that comply with applicable regulations in every country in which our products are sold.

We do not conduct animal testing on our products or ingredients, nor ask others to test on our behalf, except when required by law. We evaluate our finished products in clinical tests on volunteer panels.

The Estee Lauder Companies fully supports the development and global acceptance of non-animal testing alternatives. To this end, the Company works extensively with the industry at large and the global scientific community to research and fund these
alternatives.

Additionally, we appreciate the opportunity to explain that we do not have a comprehensive list of products that contain or don’t contain certain ingredients. However, if you would kindly provide us with the specific product names with which you are interested, we will be happy to have our chemist check each of them.

Once again, thank you for contacting Bumble and bumble.

Sincerely,

Patricia Anderson

So there you have it. Sounds like a company that STRIVES to be animal friendly, but  has obviously not got there yet. Verdict: not vegan.

    1. An AMAZING vegan line to try is Pureology! The best color safe shampoo and conditioners and some really great styling products. Love love love Pureology.

    1. But they are *not* cruelty free. If you re-read this, it says they do not test, “except when required by law”.

        1. But if it is “required by law”, doesn’t that mean that all companies have to do those procedures….?

          1. The only place I know of that actually requires animal testing is China. There may be more. This is only in relation to beauty products however. Animal tests are required in medicine still which is why I rarely take medication. The companies that truly are vegan and cruelty free do not sell their products in China and anywhere where animal testing is required.

    2. If they are not vegan and contain animal products, they are not cruelty free.

  1. Sad face. Estee Lauder wants to sell in China where animal testing is required so none of their products or child company products are cruelty free anymore.

    1. You’d think testing it on humans in every other country would suffice. Double booo

  2. no more B&b for me. could not even directly answer the question! and shame on my stylist for telling me otherwise!

  3. Bumble and bumble products are sold in China where animal testing is required by law. Bumble and bumble could choose not to sell there, but obviously money is foremost on the mind of Estee Lauder Companies. There statement clearly states that they do not do animal testing “expect where required by law” which is China. They are liars and they are doing all they can to cover this up, but they know there is animal testing going on and they are on board with it. DO NOT buy bumble and bumble products!!
